Bar Opus is a newly opened, glass-and -steel-modernized bar and restaurant in Birmingham’s business district.
Sam was at the bar and he mixed me a cocktail of his own invention – a smoked caramel Manhattan. He concocted it by mixing woodford reserve bourbon with
smoke-infused, caramel syrup before chilling the drink with a smoke-infused ice ball.
He then used a hand-smoker to pump bourbon woodchip smoke into a large tumbler and sealed in the smoke with the cocktail glass.
When I lifted the glass to drink the cocktail the smoke escaped and wafted up from the tumbler releasing the scent of smoked bourbon woodchips.
After explaining about the project to Sam, he gave the montage a Club Opus privilege card and a business card, wrapping both cards together with a beaded bracelet. Sam then sent me to see Matt at Clements and Church to check out his tie.
